My name is Gavin Humphrey Martindale and I was born on September
11th, 1995 in Tulsa Oklahoma. I’m an only child if you don’t
consider my half brother and sister who are way older than me. Although it was
just me growing up with my mom (Kim) and dad (Gary), my family always had at
least one dog in the house and currently we have two named (Penny and Buddy).
They are both mutts which we adopted and I couldn’t love more. I currently
study at the University of Oklahoma and I’m just trying to finish up my senior
year as smoothly as possible. My goals
for the future are to one graduate in Spring 2017 with a Biology major and
hopefully move on to a dentist school. I would love to be accepted into the
University of Oklahoma’s dentistry school and eventually one day start a dentist
practice of my own. In this practice I hopefully will have specialized and can
perform surgery because I think that would keep me entertained the most while
helping people too.

My interests are involved with physical activities such as
football, basketball, baseball, and weight lifting along with visual and
auditory arts such as movies and music. My favorite movies are suspenseful
movies such as “Prisoners” and comedies which could honestly be narrowed down
to anything with Will Ferrell in it. My music choice however is all over the
place. I love artists like Eminem, Kurt Cobain, Johnny Cash, Kendrick Lamar,
David Allen Coe, and many more. My favorite thing to do is go to a concert
which is talked about in my other blog Cain's Ballroom...My Favorite Place. The
most recent concert I went to was Lil Wayne which was in Oklahoma City. I would say that my favorite food is Pizza but
honestly I like anything except most dishes with veggies. I know this is
childish but I just can’t get over them….I’ve never truly eaten a salad as fat
as that makes me sound.

Although I have a vast amount of love for the state I was
raised in, I want to move to another city preferably larger one day. I would
say this is my ultimate goal because I don’t want to say I never truly got out
and experienced the world. If you have any questions about me feel free to

Hey Gavin! I always had at least 1 dog in the house too! At times we had as many as 4! my house was a zoo, at 1 point we had, 4 dogs, a cat, 2 birds, a fish pond, a hamster, and 2 iguanas. We could just never say no to an animal in need. Adoption is the way to go! And I am so so so glad you support it! Also, I work at the Criterion in the city where little Wayne played. I bar-tend all the concerts there so I probably saw you! if you ever go to a concert there again, Stop by the bar and say hello! I'm the tall blonde yelling at people behind the bar lol.
ReplyDeleteHi Gavin, I am thinking there needs to be a dental club in this class or something... in addition to you, there is also Dhara and Sonali, plus Natalie in Indian Epics... I wonder if you all know each other already! And I am impressed you want to go into dental surgery. I had my wisdom teeth out this summer and, I'll be honest, I was terrified (people kept telling me these traumatic stories from their experiences, and since I'm over 50 years old I thought it would be really bad)... but it turned out great. The surgeon was excellent, and his approach to pain management worked perfectly for me: a ton of ibuprofen for 36 hours before surgery (that surprised me!), and then ibuprofen afterwards... and that was all I needed; no prescription pain medication. I think the guy must have worked some kind of dental magic because it went so well! Meanwhile my husband agrees with you about veggies... but I used to be a vegetarian, so I eat enough veggies for both of us. :-)

ReplyDeleteMy name is Sydney and I think it’s really cool that you want to become a dentist and specialize so that you can perform surgery. I’m Pre medicine and I’ve also looked into doing surgery, but that is definitely a lot of extra schooling so I’m just trying to focus on getting into medical school first lol. I also totally agree that anything that Will Ferrell is in I know I’m going to enjoy it! He literally makes me laugh so hard.

Hi Gavin! I used to have two dogs (Bruno and Hunter) that I loved very much but sadly there time had come about 6 years ago. I’ve been wanting to get another one here lately so hopefully that goes through! I’m a senior as well so I understand what you mean by trying to get done already. Hope you get the wish you want of becoming a dentist!

Hey Gavin! Its awesome you want to be a dentist. One of my good friends just started his first year of dental school at OU and loves it so far. Im also from Tulsa so I know all about Cains. Ive had a few great nights there. Im the same way about vegetables.. I cant stand them. I get everything plain and always get a weird look. Good luck on dental school!

ReplyDeleteI also really enjoy pizza, it is really the best food on this planet. I can also relate and a personal level to your hatred of salad. I don't understand why everyone is trying to make us eat salad. Its just not good without ranch, plus once you put ranch on it, its not even healthy anymore so what is the point. I also have a very strong connect with my home state, I am from Norman so im sure we have our own reasons for that. Hope your semester goes well!

ReplyDeleteHello Gavin! First off, you have the exact same birthday as one of my childhood friends, down to the year. This slightly weirded me out for a minute, because I have never met someone else born on that day, let alone the same year. This also means that you are turning 22 tomorrow, so happy birthday in advance! Being a dentist sounds like a good goal, I hope that you do well in achieving it. You mentioned wanting to see the world; where are you thinking of traveling? Do you want to live abroad, or explore the US a little more?

I'm not going to lie, dentists have always freaked me out a little bit haha! I like that you are just wanting to help people, and it is definitely important to take proper care of your teeth! HAHAHA hey Gavin! I laugh because of lil Wayne. Don't get me wrong, he is incredibly talented.. In fact I think a lot of people don't give him the credit that he deserves because of his voice. But his voice.. oh his voice it is so... special haha. I am personally a fan of Eminem, simply because he always leaves me in awe at the complexity of his rhyme schemes. Lil wayne does this to me too, and I think he and Em go really well together like in No Love.

Hi Gavin! I think it is cool that you want to go to dental school and go to OU for it since my roommate also wants to do the same. We have the same taste in movies as Will Ferrell is one of my favorite actors too. Also, my music tastes are similar to yours because I’m all over the place as well.

ReplyDeleteHi Gavin! I totally understand wanting to get out of the state you were raised in. I had a list of things I wanted in a college and going out of state was one of them. Leaving your hometown really gives you a greater appreciation for where you are from and may even make you want to go back someday. Now that I've been away from Houston, I don't totally hate the idea of going back after college. Good luck with dentist school!

Good luck on applying to Dentistry School for OU. Is that in the Health Sciences Center that is located downtown or is it available in Norman? (Just curious.) I saw that one of your favorite artist is Jonny Cash. I really love his music too. Good luck in your class this semester.
